More About the 50G
Compact Power for Tight Jobsites
For projects where access is limited but productivity still matters, the John Deere 50G is designed to deliver. Its compact dimensions make it easier to move between jobsites and work along property lines, utilities, and structures where larger machines can’t operate as efficiently.
Contractors use the 50G for:
Landscaping and grading
Light excavation and trenching
Utility installation and repair
Small site development and maintenance
With the right balance of size and capability, the 50G fits well into mixed fleets that handle both residential and commercial work.
Key Specs of the John Deere 50G
The John Deere 50G offers the following core performance specifications:
Net power: 26.8 kW (35.9 hp)
Max digging depth: 3.53 m (11 ft 7 in)
Max digging reach: 5.96 m (19 ft 7 in)
Operating weight: 4,920 kg (10,847 lb)
Additional working dimensions include:
Dump height: 4.07 m (13 ft 4 in)
Overall width: 2.0 m (6 ft 7 in)
Dozer blade width: 2.0 m (6 ft 7 in)
These numbers reflect the 50G’s reach and depth that support things like truck loading, trenching, and foundation work. All while staying in a compact class that’s easier to transport and maneuver.
Operator-Focused Cab and Visibility
The John Deere 50G is built with operator comfort and visibility in mind. A redesigned cab with wider, taller front glass and a single-hinge door helps provide clear sightlines to the trench, attachment, and surrounding work area.
This focus on visibility and layout supports:
More precise trenching and grading
Easier loading and unloading
Better awareness around people, trucks, and obstacles
When paired with intuitive controls and a comfortable operator station, the 50G helps reduce fatigue over long days on the job.
Versatility with Attachments
As part of John Deere’s compact excavator line, the 50G is designed to work with a range of approved attachments and configurations. Standard and optional features, along with attachment choices, allow you to adapt the machine for trenching, grading, site cleanup, and material handling.
This versatility makes the John Deere 50G a strong choice for contractors who need one machine to handle multiple tasks across different sites.

Serviceability
Hinged door provides wide-open access to the side-by-side oil cooler and radiator for easier core clean-out.
Operator station tilts forward 50 degrees, simplifying access to the swing motor, hydraulic control valve, engine starter motor, and alternator.
Ease of Control
Go from backhoe- to excavator-style controls with just a twist of your wrist. Control pattern selector valve is conveniently located in a compartment beneath the seat.
No operator activation required for high-speed travel. Track speeds automatically slow to low whenever the travel motors encounter a heavier load. Includes a console-mounted, low-speed lock switch.
Engine
The EPA FT4/EU Stage IV technology in our excavators is simple, fuel efficient, fully integrated, and fully supported.
Auto-idle automatically reduces engine speed when hydraulics aren’t in use. Auto-shutdown further preserves every precious drop of fuel.
Tracks
Choose the tracks that are best for the way you work. Rubber tracks traverse virtually any terrain, including paved surfaces. Steel tracks and steel tracks with rubber pads are also available. Optional rubber grousers combine work-anywhere flexibility with steel-track serviceability.
Arm & Boom
Truck sideboards are no problem for this compact. Lift height and reach are plentiful, making truck loading easy.
Compact Design
Zero-tail-swing design make this compact extra maneuverable and plenty productive in places with tight spaces.
Visibility
Redesigned cab's wider, taller front glass and single-hinge door provide unsurpassed all-around visibility.
