Field proven and durable open center hydraulics
310 P-Tier backhoe 310 P-Tier backhoe
Overview

The open center control valve and pump combination has been used on Deere backhoes since 1997.  This field-proven system has served the product well over its lifetime, providing such benefits as high contamination tolerance, excellent swing control, open center pressure/force control, operator “feel”, and excellent multifunction performance as compared to other open center systems in the marketplace.

The 310 P-Tier is configured with a single gear pump (28 GPM).

  • Very efficient system type for high productivity digging application.
  • Continuous oil flow for cooling and filtration, even with all functions in neutral.  Cleaner, cooler oil means improved system life and less downtime.
  • Inherent load feedback to the operator.  Lever position with an open center system delivers a certain force level to the cylinder.  Open center can provide a level of “feel” for experienced operators when fine metering through the cut searching for an object in the ground.
Ability to work in wet and muddy conditions
Mechanical Front Wheel Drive (MFWD) front axle Mechanical Front Wheel Drive (MFWD) front axle
Overview

Mechanical Front Wheel Drive (MFWD) with limited slip differential.  The main MFWD on/off control is mounted on the RH console.

  • Limited slip front axle delivers 65% of available power to the tire with the best traction for true all-wheel-drive pulling power.
  • Completely sealed axle has no breathers to maintain or service, promoting reliability (axle breathers can be susceptible to water and/or dirt intrusion).
  • The machine will automatically disable the MFWD in 4th gear to reduce tire wear.
  • Extend tire tread life with Momentary MFWD for ‘on the fly’ activation.  Controlled with a touch of a button on the loader lever.   Great for engaging a pile or briefly powering through sticky or slippery terrain.
Powertrain Options to Fit the Job
Powershift™ transmission Powershift™ transmission

The 310 P-Tier has three powertrain options; choose the one that fits your job best!

The simple, durable, and economical manual transmission with open differential:

  • Gear selection lever is within easy reach of the operator, and includes a clutch disconnect on the grip. The lever can be shifted while the machine is stationary or in motion. The transmission has four gears in both forward and reverse.
  • The forward, neutral, reverse (FNR) lever is mounted on the steering column; tasks that require frequent direction change can be done with one hand as the lever is next to the steering wheel.

The easy to use and reliable Powershift™ transmission with open differential:

  • Gear selection is made using the transmission control lever, an easy to reach twist grip lever on the right side of the steering column. The transmission has four gears in forward, and two in reverse.
  • The forward, neutral, reverse (FNR) lever is mounted on the left side of the steering column; tasks that require frequent direction change can be done with one hand as the lever is next to the steering wheel.
  • The hydraulically actuated clutch makes for smooth shifting and reliable performance under any operating condition or load.

Powershift transmission with limited slip differential:

  • All the benefits of the Powershift transmission, plus the true all-wheel-drive pulling power to maximize traction in wet or muddy conditions.

Enhanced John Deere 4.5L Engine Performance and Reliability
John Deere PowerTech™ EWL Engine John Deere PowerTech™ EWL Engine

The John Deere PowerTech™ EWL that eliminates the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. Underground utility customers will appreciate the increased power, improved torque, and greater reliability compared to the previous design. For models 310 P-Tier, 320 P-Tier, 410 P-Tier, 710 P-Tier.

  • EPA Final Tier 4 (FT4)/EU Stage IV emission certified.
  • 3–7 percent net horsepower increase (over Power Tech Plus configuration) with improved torque curve.
  • Removal of the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system and components (plumbing, cooler, and sensors).
  • Simpler two-valve cylinder-head design. Redesigned and improved fuel-filter location enables easy access when changing filters.
  • Does not require a DPF, reducing maintenance costs on the aftertreatment system.
